The town of Cadillac lies in the centre of the region and was
built in the 13th Century as a walled city. Cadillac has good
shops, several restaurants and busy Saturday market.
Bordeaux, a major port and capital of Aquitaine, lies
on the banks of the Garonne River. It is a vibrant city with
a grand theatre and a number of museums. It also has an excellent
selection of shops, restaurants and cafes. A new tram system
has recently opened which allows good access to all areas.
AND THE DUNE DU PILAT
The basin d’Arcachon is an hour away, and the coast is
well knows for the excellent surf. The town of Arcachon is lively,
especially in summer. There are many restaurants and bars along
the boardwalk, and a good variety of shops. The Dune is a short
distance along the coast from Arcachon and is well worth a visit.
It is the largest sand dune in Europe – nearly 2 miles
long and 340 ft high.
